A community-Based oRGANIZATION

Honoring the Legacy of Richard Willis

Richard Willis was a devoted husband, loving father of five sons, and cherished grandfather of 15. A true pillar of Staten Island—particularly in the Grant City and Midland Beach communities—he dedicated much of his life to helping others, especially young people. (MAKE THIS A READ MORE…BELOW)

His passion for youth development was evident in his decades of volunteer work. Richard coached basketball, baseball, and soccer, playing a pivotal role in establishing and leading local sports programs. He served as President of St. Christopher’s Sports Program and Holy Name Society, as well as a director and coach in the Staten Island Babe Ruth League throughout the 1970s and 80s.

Beyond athletics, Richard volunteered his time to religious education at St. Christopher’s Parish, helping instill strong values in the next generation. His belief in providing safe spaces for youth led him to keep local gymnasiums open on weekends and late nights, ensuring teens had a place to play basketball, build friendships, and stay out of trouble.

After his passing in 1993 at the age of 57, Richard’s family and friends established this fund to carry forward his legacy of mentorship, service, community leadership, and youth advocacy—continuing to uplift Staten Island’s youth, just as he did.

For over two decades, the Richard Willis Memorial Fund has remained steadfast in its mission, with 100% of our proceeds going directly back to support the children and youth programs of Staten Island. Our organization is proudly powered entirely by volunteers—dedicated individuals who share a passion for giving back and who are inspired by Richard Willis’ unwavering commitment to service.

We strive to keep his memory and spirit of volunteerism alive, providing opportunities and resources for Staten Island’s youth while fostering a legacy of community, compassion, and leadership. His example continues to shine brightly, encouraging others to follow in his footsteps and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those around them.
